Adam Zilberman is a Saxophonist, Clarinetist, Flutist, Composer/Arranger, and Educator from Thousand Oaks, California and living in Los Angeles. Transparent through all aspects of Adam's artistry- performing, improvising, or composing, Adam's artistic concept, specifically on the Baritone Saxophone, is a transparent conduit to his thoughts and feelings. In Middle School, Adam was blessed to learn from a formative teacher, Mike Gangemi, where he mentored Adam and quickly fell in love with jazz. The late Mr. G was an important figure to Adam as he showed him his voice within jazz and all music, an invaluable lesson that Adam strives to share with others.
Throughout high school and middle school, Adam is grateful to have studied with a dear mentor, Brian Scanlon, while also carving his own path in the Los Angeles scene and being internationally recognized. In 2020, Adam was selected to be in the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra as one of the youngest members in the band on top of winning The Gerry Mulligan Foundation National Competition, and earning the Baritone Saxophone chair in the All-State and All-Southern California Jazz Band for the third year in a row. He is also very grateful to be recognized as a national Young-Arts Foundation Honorable Mention twice, a recipient of the DownBeat Magazine Honors Arrangement and Soloist Awards, a member in the Colburn School of Music’s prestigious Thursday and Monday Night Bands, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Summer Jazz Academy, and a guest soloist with the Tom Kubis Band and Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band. Teaching music students at his local middle school, where he gave back in the spirit of the formative educators before him, Adam has also shared the bandstand with many inspiring mentors and artists such as Gerald Clayton, John Daversa, Gordon Goodwin, Wayne Bergeron, and John Beasley to name a few. Currently studying with Mark Turner at the UCLA School of Music and already playing all over the Los Angeles music scene, Zilberman leads his own Jazz Orchestra he calls the “AZ Big Band” on top of the work he gets as a sideman in jazz, classical, contemporary, klezmer, pit orchestra, and pop. Whether it be recording in the studio or writing a new piece for his Big Band, Adam brings his passion for art and empathy to connect with others through his music.
With over 4 years of teaching experience, Adam deeply enjoys nurturing students’ musical voices by creating a warm environment with individually-structured lesson plans for his private studio. Working with all types of students on their musical journey, Adam hopes to work with you to develop your own voice!
